Greetings-
We are really excited about the introduction of our
new CareBot MSR 3.4. It represents
over eight years of development by many talented and
tenacious engineers, programmers and other enthusiasts.
In many ways, we consider this new personal robot to be the
"Model T" of MSRs. (I have teased our R&D folks on
occasion, that unlike the original Model T, we don't have wooden
spokes on our wheels, or friction and leather shock absorbers...)
This past year has been spent primarily in cost reduction and manufacturability issues,
as well as improving overall performance. We have succeeded beyond our original
expectations and goals. All our software has been rewritten and improved for more graceful and lifelike movements,
interactions, and behavior. Even our CPU utilization is more efficient for longer
battery life.
Those of you that have followed our journey the last few years understand that we have paid
our dues. We are not an academic spin-off, nor are we a project emerging from
corporate skunk works. We started with a small group of visionaries that defined
the architecture you now see realized in the pictures and videos on this website.
(Some of our co-founders had been working on personal robots for ten to fifteen years, eight years
ago!) We spent our early years in spare bedrooms, garages, and on kitchen tables.
We made our first shrouds from plastic Rubbermaid trashcans with hours and hours of labor-intensive
customization. Family and friends have frequently given us their support both
financially and emotionally.
I am exceedingly grateful to all the folks who have assisted us in the last few years.
Most are stockholders in GeckoSystems, and I sincerely hope their "sweat equity" appreciates
far beyond the time they have invested.
Please feel free to send comments and questions to us about our extraordinarily advanced
personal robot. We have named our first CareBot MSR 3.4 prototype, "Kelly,"
who replaces the 3.0 prototype we call "Eve." We are working very hard to revise
our website to fairly portray our newest version, so please bookmark our home page.
So what does it do? Our CareBots help you take better care of your family, whether you are adult
children wanting to keep your parents out of a nursing home for a while longer, or working adults
needing help to watch your sometimes "latchkey" children.
I hope this gives you some idea of what we mean by "mobile robot solutions for safety, security,
and service."
Cordially yours,
Martin Spencer
